The Isle of Wight Festival this year may have been on the receiving end of a huge deluge that saw gridlocked patrons sleeping in their cars. However, promoters have been absolutely amazed at the resilience of the crowd who toughed it out despite the inclement conditions. Although numbers might have been just slightly less than last year's 65,000 concert-goers, all reports state that campers rose to the challenge as they sported their "wellies" and raincoats to enjoy some of the top acts on the planet.
Friday saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on the Main Stage where they pleased their followers with a huge set of their greatest hits. Earlier on the Main Stage, Elbow made a point that the inclement weather hadn't dampened their spirits, especially when the vocalist said, "This is one weekend we re-affirm our faith in humanity."
On Saturday fans experienced Pearl Jam and Biffy Clyro. While on Sunday the Main Stage headline acts included none other than the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, followed by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
The line up for the Big Top also included some big names, including: Friday - Lana Del Rey. Saturday saw Professor Green and Katy B, while Sunday's Big Top line up included The Darkness and Spector, just to mention some of the huge acts on show.
Promoters may not be able to control the weather, but by all reports (and the huge 55,000 support) inclement conditions don't seem to get in the way of having a good time.
