The Flaming Lips have pushed rapper Jay-Z out of the no.2 spot after playing in 8 different cities within a 24 hour time period. The band traveled to all of their performances by bus, working their way from Memphis, Tennessee to Louisiana.
As confirmed by Starpulse, Wayney Coyne and the guys broke the difficult record on June 27th with the event streaming live on Viacom’s O Music Awards. The stream managed to pull in 43 million viewers. The mini-tour also showcased musical guest Grace and the Nocturnals and Jackson Browne.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about their historical round of concerts that has landed them into the Guinness Book of World Records, Music & Logo president, Van Toffler, spoke on behalf of the band.  "Achieving this record-breaking musical journey has been exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. Wayne, the Lips, all the musicians and fans that greeted us along the Delta and a sweaty tired crew made for some choice moments on this trek. Now it's time for all of us to take a long hot shower."
Previously rapper Jay-Z held the record after the rapper traveled to perform to 7 cities on his private jet.
