The Songs Lyrics History
Song lyrics are known since the very beginning of song writing in ancient times. Mayan people have written lyrics on stones, for songs dedicated to gods and performed on rituals. Then in ancient Egypt lyrics have been found on papyrus sheets which represented songs that ancient pharaohs wanted to listen, and also song lyrics dedicated to Amon Ra the Egyptian god of the sun. Many song lyrics are now interpreted and translated to English or other languages and the originals writings are kept in museums around the world.
Song lyrics have taken their special place since the ending of the Baroko and special attention has been given since then. The Lyrics revolution appears with the fast development of technology where music has gained a special place in every culture. Is it mean to be shocked, not by a group’s disbanding announcement, but by the fact that they are actually still together? It’s sort of like when you hear that an elderly celebrity has died and you thought that they had passed years ago. It doesn’t necessarily feel good but everyone has done it (right?).
Well, this is how I felt when I learned tha Chumbawamba had decided to part ways today. If you aren’t exactly sure who I am talking about, you might remember a highly popular 90s song called “Tubthumping” (“I get knocked down, but I get up again” – ring a bell?).
Apparently, they’ve remained together for an amazing 30 years (yes, three whole decades!) but have announced their plans to dissolve the group on their official website.
The actual statement was rather fitting and amusing and said: "with neither a whimper, a bang or a reunion. Thirty years of ideas and melodies, endless meetings and European tours, press releases, singalong choruses and Dada sound poetry, finally at an end. We do, of course, reserve the right to re-emerge as Chumbawamba doing something else entirely: frankly, that's not very likely."
If you’ve always wanted to see them live, you better catch them before curtain call following their fall and early winter performances this year.
"Chumbawamba (Finally) Break Up" was originally published to Chumbawamba on KOvideo
